NIOSH Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation Reports for "Motor Vehicle - Struck-by" Incidents

  • Virginia: Towing Worker from "Cash's Garage" Killed in Amherst County Wreck

    Officers say late Monday morning, they were called to clear a tractor-trailer crash on Route 130 in the Snowden area. The big rig had overturned, so workers from "Cash's Garage" in Madison Heights were called in to help with the clean up effort. State Police say just after 12:00pm, 64-year-old Claude Cash was standing near his wrecker when another tractor trailer traveling by the crash site crashed into him. Cash died at the scene.

  • West Virginia Sheriff's Deputy Killed in Car Accident

    An on-duty Monongalia County, West Virginia Sheriff's Deputy was killed early Saturday morning in a car accident. Sergeant Michael Todd May, 41, was working a midnight shift on D.U.I. patrol, when his vehicle was struck by a driver under the influence on Interstate 79 just over the Pennsylvania line. A press release from the Waynesburg Detachment of the Pennsylvania State Police stated that Jerod Alan Green, 35, of Morgantown was being investigated for a hit and run on Easton Hill Road. Granville Police located Green's vehicle traveling on Route 100 in Monongalia County. Officers initiated a stop and deputies from the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department arrived to assist.

  • Pennsylvania Tow Truck Operator Killed on Route 581

    A tow truck operator was killed in a crash on Route 581 in Cumberland County early Wednesday morning. The crash happened just after midnight on Route 581 westbound in Lemoyne. Andrew Smith, 23, of Landisburg was loading a disable vehicle onto his flatbed tow truck along the highway in Lemoyne when he was struck by a tractor-trailer traveling west.
