  • Texas Deputy Struck and Killed

    Deputies say one of their own is dead after being struck by a suspected drunk driver on Highway 82 while on duty on Saturday night. Chad Key died when a car hit him while he was directing traffic around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night at the intersection of Highway 82 and Bethany Road, east of Sherman, Sheriff's Office Lt. Rickey Wheeler said.

  • Texas Wrecker Driver Killed in Crash

    A wrecker driver died while working to tow a stalled vehicle. The accident happened about 11:20 p.m. Friday April 5, 20913 in the center lane of the Southwest Freeway near Fountain View. Investigators said the flatbed wrecker truck pulled up behind a woman and her male passenger as they sat in their stalled Toyota Corolla Authorities said secondary wrecker stopped behind them in order to set up a protective barricade for the two vehicles. The passenger got out of the car and stood on the side of the freeway. The driver was trying to climb out through the passenger door as the flatbed operator was getting in on the driver's side. That's when a white pick-up truck drove around the barricade and slammed into the back of the flatbed wrecker, causing it to crush the Corolla, police said. The flatbed operator was still sitting inside was pinned inside the vehicle, investigators said.

  • New Jersey State Forest Fire Member Struck and Killed

    A firefighter from Raritan Township was struck by a vehicle and killed near a state park in Clinton Township today. Jeffrey Scheurer, 35, was conducting a controlled burn along with other firefighters when he was struck on Route 629 about 11:30 a.m., near the Round Valley Reservoir, according to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office. Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony Kearns said heavy smoke from the burn may have played a part in the crash, as a shift in the wind led to reduced visibility.   • Mississippi Police Chief Struck and Killed

    Authorities say a police chief in east Mississippi has died after being struck by a car while directing traffic. Clarke County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Barry White says Enterprise Police Chief Randy Boykin died Tuesday while being flown to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Boykin had been chief for 12 years and also worked as a part-time deputy.

  • Tennessee Trooper Killed in Highway Incident

    It is with deep regret we report the LODD of Trooper Michael Slagle died following a vehicle crash on Longmire Road, near Emory Road, in Knox County. His patrol car slid off the roadway after striking a patch of ice. Despite being stuck in his vehicle, he was able to notify dispatchers of the crash and rescue crews were sent to the scene. A responding fire truck slid on the same patch of ice and flipped over on top of his patrol car while he was still inside. At some point during the incident Trooper Slagle suffered a fatal heart attack. Trooper Slagle had served with the Tennessee Highway Patrol for 28 years and was assigned to the State Supreme Court Detail. He had previously served with the Granger County Sheriff's Office for four years. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
