New York: State Trooper Dies After Crash on Thruway
A New York state trooper died Tuesday from injuries he suffered when his police cruiser was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer shortly after he pulled over a car for speeding on the Thruway, authorities said. Trooper David Cunniff, 35, was inside his patrol car behind the car he had pulled over on Interstate 90's eastbound lanes around 8:20 p.m. Monday, when his cruiser was hit by the big rig and he was partially thrown from his vehicle. New Mexico: Officer Hit by Car on Icy I-25 Dies of His Injuries
Sandoval County sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Baron, who was injured Thursday while investigating a weather-related crash on Interstate 25, died Friday afternoon despite what Sheriff Doug Wood described as a “gallant” effort by hospital staff to save his life. The 47-year-old Baron, an eight-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, had been listed in critical but stable condition after being hit by a car while investigating a crash on roads made dangerous by a snowstorm that hit the state. New York: New York City Traffic Agent Struck and Killed
Kalyanarat Ranasinghe an NYPD traffic enforcement agent was struck and killed by a truck at a Manhattan intersection on Saturday afternoon November 30, police and witnesses said. The unidentified male agent was hit by an industrial vacuum truck about 2:45 p.m. on East 44th Street, between Fifth and Madison avenues, witnesses said. Maryland: Perryville Volunteer Fire Police Officer Struck While Directing Traffic Has Died
David Barr Sr., a Perryville volunteer firefighter who was hit by a car while directing traffic last month, died Thursday morning November 7, 2013. He was 65. On October 25 Barr was working as a fire police captain, managing the traffic around an accident on Route 40 near the Maryland 222 intersection when he got hit, rolled up on the hood of the car and laid on the highway with severe head injuries. A Midlands firefighter in South Africa died after being hit by a fire truck on Monday Ocetober 7, 2013. Alicia Govender, 31, had returned to the Pietermaritzburg fire station after putting out a veld fire with colleagues when tragedy struck. It has been alleged that Govender was standing behind the fire truck when she was hit.
Mississippi Officer Struck abd Killed on Interstate 55
Jackson Mississippi Officer Bruce Jacobs was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 55 at approximately 0130 hours on Sunday July 21, 2013. Jacobs had just removed a barbeque grill that had fallen onto the highway and was attempting to place it in the trunk of his patrol car when he was struck from behind. Authorities say a Louisiana tow truck operator has died and a Texas man charged with vehicular homicide following an early morning hit-and-run crash on Interstate 10 near Breaux Bridge. York County, Pennsylvania Fire Chief Killed by Drunk Driver While Directing Traffic at Crash
The Loganville Fire Company lost their chief early Saturday morning when he was killed in the line of duty. Fire Chief Rodney Miller was at Exit 8, the Glen Rock exit of Interstate 83, directing traffic off of the interstate. This was to land a helicopter on the highway to transport someone injured in an earlier accident. Miller had his vehicle parked in the southbound lanes with its emergency lights on. Matthew Diehl, 32 of Shrewsbury, was driving a white Chevrolet Trail blazer when he moved into the right lane to go around Chief Miller’s vehicle. Diehl struck Miller and then kept going until he came to the backlog of vehicles on the highway. Miller was transported to York Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
