(GA)(03-15-2023) Tow Operator Struck and Killed while helping clean up crash on I-85

NEWNAN, Ga. — A retired Marine, a father and soon to be husband lost his life while doing his job on Wednesday morning, March 15th, in Coweta County.

Toby Bowden, 49, who worked for Parkers Towing in Newnan was dispatched out to a crash on I-85 northbound near the Highway 29 exit a short time before 7 a.m.

As we he was standing in the emergency lane helping in the clean-up of the crash, troopers saw a driver come up on the crash site at a high rate of speed before losing control of his car as he swerved to miss firetrucks who were helping block lanes for first responders.

Troopers said the vehicle started to spin out of control before hitting Bowden. He died on scene. The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office confirmed one of their deputies was also hurt who was standing nearby but is expected to survive.
