Virginia State Police Promoting 'Move Over' Law'
Virginia State Police are joining with Nationwide insurance to help protect those who drive tow trucks and road maintenance vehicles. They're promoting Virginia's Move Over Law which requires drivers to change lanes or cautiously pass emergency workers stopped on the side of the road. Fallen Minnesota Trooper Behind 'Move Over Law' Remembered
The Minnesota State Patrol is remembering one of their own, who in his passing, led to safer roads for law enforcement officers. State Patrol Corporal Ted Foss was hit and killed by a tractor trailer during a traffic stop on I-90 in Rochester on Aug. 31, 2000. The truck driver was charged with eight misdemeanor counts, including reckless and inattentive driving.

Michigan: New Campaign to Urge 'Move Over Law' Compliance
A new campaign is being kicked off to remind motorists to use caution when approaching stopped emergency vehicles. State Police Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, along with officials from Michigan’s Department of Transportation and the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, will announce the program Thursday in Lansing. Texas: Move Over for Crews on Highway
The state’s move over/slow down law, passed in 2003 to require drivers to yield to police, fire and emergency vehicles, will now expand to include Texas Department of Transportation workers. September is usually the traditional commencement of new laws for Texans, but starting this Sept. 1, drivers must move over or slow down when approaching TxDOT workers and vehicles that are stopped with overhead flashing blue or amber lights. North Carolina: Move Over: It's The Law! NC Trooper Almost Hit By Tractor-Trailer
Drivers beware, not moving over when you see an officer or an emergency vehicle on the side of the road can cost you and hurt or kill an officer or first responder. NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) released dash-cam video that demonstrated the importance of the law. The video is from a Trooper who had to run for his life when he was talking with a driver he pulled over on US 64.
