  • Wisconsin: "Move Over Law" event held

    Dozens of emergency response crews gathered at Farm and Fleet in Lake Hallie Sunday evening to promote Wisconsin's slow down or move over law. The law states that drivers must either switch lanes or slow down to create a safety zone for workers on the side of highways. Event organizers told us a tow truck operator is killed every six days because of inattentive driving. The organizers hosted their first event back in November, and continue to do so because of their personal connection to the cause. "We are out here working daily, this is our office," said Jim Stanton. "We want people to be aware of the slow down move over law. We want to be able to go home to our families just like they are able to do" Gary Walsh's son was killed while working on the side of the road. Walsh said the idea is simple- people just need to move over. "These are the people speaking out right here. These are the people who are in the trenches all of the time," Walsh said. "Their families are waiting for a phone call to go to work, but don't want to get the phone call that they are not coming home." The group is not sure when their next event will be, but they told us they are going to keep working to save lives on Wisconsin roadways--
