Georgia: Move Over Law to expand July 1

You may be familiar with the Georgia's Move Over Law, but in a few weeks it's expanding. Starting July 1, the Move Over Law will apply to vehicles such as utility and garbage trucks.

Drivers must move over to another lane when these cars or an emergency vehicles are pulled over and if they can't move over, they must slow down. Officials say the law is all about protecting the safety of the people who are pulled over.

"People out here have mechanical break downs with their vehicle, they may have a flat. They can't pull completely off the roads way to change that tore but yet people don't do the common courtesy of getting over and you have people being killed," said Captain Tom Jackson with the Dougherty County Police Department.

Jackson said it also helps protect officers as they pull over for traffic stops and workers trying to safely do their job.
