New Jersey: Oakcrest students hear about Move Over Law
As part of Oakcrest High School's U Got Brains grant, the New Jersey State Police School and Traffic Safety Unit gave a presentation Dec. 14 to all health classes. Donna Setaro, the mother of fallen NJ State Trooper Marc Castellano, talked about making drivers aware of New Jersey's Move Over Law.
The law, passed Jan. 27, 2009, requires drivers to move over a lane when approaching an emergency vehicle on the side of the road. It was designed to prevent the type of accident that claimed her son’s life in June 2010 when he was struck by a driver on Interstate 195 in Howell while responding to a roadside emergency.
Setaro said driver awareness of the law is low, and she has been on an awareness campaign to educate people about it.
