Arizona's "Move Over" law
Arizona’s “Move Over” law is important to keep people on the side of the road safe. The law requires drivers to move over one lane when driving by vehicles on the side of the road, and back in 2011 this law was updated to include any stationary vehicle with flashing lights.
If drivers can’t safely slide over to the next lane, you must slow your speed significantly and use caution.
Every year hundreds of people are killed or injured across the nation after being struck on the side of the road. On average, this type of crash kills one tow-truck driver every six days, 23 highway workers and one law enforcement officer every month, and five firefighters every year.
Drivers who fail to move over could be cited and also fined. The base fine is $150, but it can reach $650 depending on where the violation occurs and additional fees.
