Tennessee: Towing companies raise awareness about move over law
Several Tri-Cities Tennessee towing companies teamed up this weekend for an event to raise awareness about moving over for wreckers and other emergency vehicles. Harry’s Towing, along with other towing services, hosted the event in Johnson City.
Organizers told News Channel 11, for every police officer killed because someone didn’t move over, six tow truck drivers are killed. “Just slow down. Please move over, give us room to work. We have families, we have kids, we have mothers we have fathers we have wives. You know we are out here to help your families to get them home safe, so let us do our jobs and let us go home safe,” said Ricky Ward of Harry’s Towing Service.
“This truck was setting basically in the middle of the road. And the driver never seen us until he was right on top of us. And he slammed on the brakes. And just happily he missed this truck by about three foot and went in the ditch,” said Bobby Ferguson of Cut Rate Towing.
The event included food, face painting, and a bounce house. At the end of the event, wreckers lined up for a parade up I-26 to the Boones Creek exit and back.
