Oklahoma: Tow truck drivers caravan I-35 to showcase "Move Over" law
Forty tow trucks drove together up I-35 Sunday, hoping to make other drivers aware of the law. They wanted to make sure people in Oklahoma know the "move over" law applies to wreckers.Drivers in the metro took a seven-mile drive from Crossroads Mall to Bricktown.
"Slow down, move over, watch for us," Nick Ragsdale said. Ragsdale, the owner of Ragsdale's Towing, organized the drive in Oklahoma City. He said groups in several cities across the country were all participating in the campaign together.
Several states have variations of the law. In Oklahoma, just as you would have to move over a lane or slow down for emergency responders like police and EMSA, you have to move for tow trucks operators who are working on the side of the road.
"It's dangerous out there for us, it really is. A lot of people don't realize it, but it is dangerous," he said.
Nationally, every six days a tow truck driver is killed in a roadside accident.
