North Carolina: Driver will be charged under 'Move Over' law after trooper injured
A 22-year-old La Grange man will be charged under the state's "Move Over" law after a N.C. Highway Patrol trooper was injured in a wreck Sunday night. The State Highway Patrol has identified the driver involved in Sunday’s collision on U.S. 70 as Dylan Thomas Smith, 22, of La Grange,
Smith will be charged with failing to slow or change lanes for an authorized emergency vehicle on a multi-lane roadway. The violation is a misdemeanor for causing personal injury or property damage greater than $500. The injured law enforcement officer, Trooper R.C. Riley, a six-year veteran assigned to the Kinston Highway Patrol office, has been released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, according to N.C. Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Jeff Gordon. At 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, Lenoir County trooper Riley was struck while sitting inside his vehicle as he investigated an earlier collision, Gordon said.
