Massachusetts: State Police enforce 'move over law' Monday on the Mass. Pike
Troopers took to the Massachusetts Turnpike Monday to educate and issue warnings about the "move over law." The troopers from Community Action Team and the Charlton barracks patrolled the eastbound side of highway and issued warnings to offenders, State Police said.
The drivers were also handed information about the law and how to comply. The move over law was enacted in March 2009 and requires drivers heading toward a stationary emergency or maintenance vehicle with flashing lights on to move to another lane, if safe. Drivers can also reduce their speed if they cannot change lanes safely.
A fine of up to $100 can be issued. The State Police said in a Facebook post that the law was created to keep emergency responders and other roadside emergency drivers safe.
