Florida: Orange County Sheriff's Office launches Move Over campaign
Deputies are taking part in the national Move Over, Slow Down campaign. The Move Over law requires drivers to scoot over a lane when an emergency vehicle is on the shoulder.
If drivers cannot move over due to traffic, they must reduce their speed to at least 20 mph under the speed limit. Under the law, road rangers, police cruisers, tow trucks, utility vehicles and sanitation trucks are all considered emergency vehicles. Deputies said the goal of the campaign, which lasts through Friday, is to raise awareness about the law and prevent unnecessary deaths on the roadway.
Tickets will be issued for law violators at various times throughout the day on an Orange County highway or toll road.
