In the instant before the dark-colored SUV struck him on Interstate 95, New Hampshire State Police Capt. Christopher Colitti thought of his wife and two daughters.

"I remember thinking if I get hit, I'm going to die," he recalled. "And I thought, I can't do this to them. I can't die." That was three years ago. Colitti didn't die.
