GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN POLICE STEPPING UP ENFORCEMENT
Green Bay police and other law enforcement agencies launched campaigns this month to enforce Wisconsin's move-over/slow-down law, which is designed to protect personnel working on roadways. The leading cause – 59 percent — of all police officer deaths is being hit by passing motorists, said Green Bay police Lt. Brad Florence. Being struck by passing motorists is also a major cause of death for fire department, towing company and public works personnel.
Wisconsin's move-over law requires motorists to move to an adjacent lane, if possible, or slow down when approaching a utility, maintenance or emergency vehicle that's parked on the side of the road with its lights flashing. The fine is $172 and three demerit points.
