TENNESSEE 'MOVE OVER LAW' MAY EXPAND TO KEEP ALL MOTORISTS SAFER
State lawmakers want to broaden protection from Tennessee's "Move Over Law" to include any driver on the side of the road. The current law orders drivers to merge over a lane or slow down for emergency vehicles only.
State Representative David Shepard from Dickson wants drivers to also be considerate of vehicles broken down, people changing a flat tire, or pedestrians trying to get to safety.
"This is hopefully going to make people more aware, more sensitive, that when you see a disabled vehicle on the side of the road, slow down, and get over in the other lane," said Shepard. The proposal passed a house sub-committee unanimously Tuesday night. The bill now moves before a budget committee.
