THE IDAHO “MOVE OVER” TEST

The Idaho State Police recently put Idaho drivers to the "Move Over" test. Police have been trying to push the new Idaho move over law, even putting out a public service announcement to spread the word. But is Idaho listening?

We set up a mock traffic stop to see if people would actually move into the left hand lane when the trooper's lights were on. Not giving officers rooms leaves them in a dangerous spot as well as the people they've pulled over.

It didn't take long to find out why the state is pushing awareness. "We just had a violator right there that didn't take more than 10-seconds," ISP Trooper Tyler Jussel said.

Even while that car was pulled over by Jussel more cars stayed in the right hand lane as they passed. Driver Irvin Johnson was one of the people who got caught. "I was looking in the mirror and I was thinking there was someone so I couldn't pull over," Johnson said. Truckers tended to do the best at the "Move Over" test, trying to do what ever they could to get into the left hand lane. Many other drivers did the same, just that extra lane of traffic gives them the buffer they need to stay safe.
