VIRGINIA STATE POLICE HAVE INCREASED HOLIDAY PATROLS

For 120 consecutive hours the Virginia State Police will be working overtime to keep the roads safe. The goal is to decrease fatalities and injuries, caused by speeding, impaired driving and the failure to use seat belts.

Last year, during operation "Care" there were 15 traffic deaths in Virginia.

The state police hope to decrease that number, and troopers will be out in large numbers to make sure that happens.

"We're out there with 75 percent of our force, looking for aggressive drivers, obviously drunk drivers, speeders and anyone else that is out there this holiday weekend," said Virginia State police trooper Thomas Molnar.

State Police also want to remind you to comply with Virginia's "Move Over" law, which requires a driver to slow down, and move over, when passing emergency personnel stopped on the side of the road. Violation of the law carries a punishment of up to 2500 dollars in fines and up to 12 months in jail.
