TENNESSEE INTERSTATE RENAMED TO HONOR FALLEN TROOPERS
A stretch of interstate in two counties has been renamed in memory of two state troopers who were killed in the line of duty. Part of Interstate 40 in Dickson and Williamson counties was dedicated on Monday in honor of Todd Larkins and Samuel Holcomb.
Both men died when they were hit by passing cars that failed to move over for a roadside stop. Many at the dedication, including Larkins' widow, called for a tougher Move Over law in Tennessee. "There's no excuse. If you can't move over, there's no excuse for not slowing down. My husband is never coming home. My children will never see their daddy again. These people need to think about what they've done,” said Larkins' widow, Alicia Larkins.
Under state law, drivers are required to move over when they see a police car or other vehicle that is on the shoulder of the road with its lights flashing.
Failure to yield can cost drivers up to $500 and 30 days in jail.
