LOUSIVILLE, KENTUCKY DECLARES TRAFFIC DRIVER SAFETY MONTH
City officials say now is the perfect time to think about safety on the roads.
Today, Mayor Jerry Abramson and Metro Police Chief Robert White announced September as “Traffic Driver Safety Month.” The city says there are 43 accidents each day in Louisville, and to cut down those numbers, the LMPD Traffic Unit will focus on a number of initiatives, including citing school-zone speeders, and ticketing those drivers who tailgate or cut off large trucks.
“But if we can continue to get the community to work with us, pay attention to driver practices, I’m convinced our accidents and fatalities and collisions will continue to decrease,” said Chief White. He also asked motorists to remember the “move over” law that requires drivers to slow down and move to the farthest lane away when an emergency vehicle comes through.
