MISSISSIPPI ‘MOVE OVER’ LAW TAKES EFFECT

Mississippi’s new “Mover Over” law was one of dozens of new state laws that took effect Sunday with the beginning of the state’s new fiscal year. With widespread support from the law enforcement community, Senate Bill 2057 was enacted in to law to protect the safety of law enforcement and other emergency personnel who stop on the highways in their official capacities. The law also applies to highway maintenance vehicles and tow trucks.

Drivers who violate the law could face a $250 fine. If they damage one of the stopped vehicles or injure anyone while violating the law, the fine rises to $1,000.
