INDIANA PUSHES ROAD SAFETY AFTER TROOPER'S DEATH
Wednesday marks the 10-year anniversary of the death of an Indiana state trooper who was struck and killed by a passing vehicle. At the time, the trooper was helping a stranded driver. Today, troopers are ticketing drivers too close to emergency vehicles. As CBS 2 Northwest Indiana Bureau Chief Pamela Jones reports, it is just one way area police are boosting safety efforts.
"I think for us that work the highway, our biggest fear is being run over by a semi or being struck by another vehicle,” said Trooper Robert Latiker of the Indiana State Police. Latiker is part of a push aimed at getting drivers to move over for parked emergency vehicles, and showing drivers the destruction they can cause if they don't. Latiker survived a similar crash in 2004.
