WISCONSIN DEPUTY'S FAMILY HOPES HIGH-TECH BILLBOARDS WILL SAVE LIVES

The family of an injured Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy is hoping a new high-tech message will help save lives.

Deputy Tim Johnson nearly died when a car slammed into him during a traffic stop last month.

Two local advertising companies are donating the space on 10 LED billboards throughout Milwaukee County's freeway system reminding drivers about the move over law.

Drivers are supposed get in the center lane if they see flashing lights on the side of the road.

Johnson's older brother, who is also a deputy, said he hopes people will also slow down.

"A lot of people say, 'I didn't know the law existed' or 'I forgot about it.' So hopefully, this sign will educate people a lot more, I hope," Johnson's brother, Kevin Johnson, said.

People who fail to move over face a $252 fine.

The billboards will be up through the end of March.
