MINNESOTA STATE PATROL RELEASES CRASH VIDEO TO PROMOTE SAFETY
The Minnesota State Patrol reminded motorists today to give wide berth to emergency vehicles — or face a citation. Too many troopers and emergency workers are being struck by oncoming traffic. At a news conference today calling attention to Minnesota’s “Move Over” law, the agency released a video of a vehicle striking a trooper on Interstate 35 on Jan. 21. The law requires motorists approaching emergency vehicles with emergency lights on to move at least one lane away. If motorists are unable to do that, they are required to slow down. Motorists who don’t move over will be cited; last year more than 400 people were ticketed. According to authorities six squad cars have been struck by motorists who didn’t move over. In the last seven years, more than 100 troopers have been injured by roadside.
