EAGLE COUNTY DEPUTIES ENFORCE 'MOVE OVER' LAW

Sheriff's deputies in Eagle County, Colorado spent the President's Day weekend making sure drivers were aware of the so-called move over law. Eagle County had nine emergency responders hit by cars in recent years. One of them died.

The law, passed in 2005, states that when drivers pass an emergency vehicle on the side of the road with its lights on, they must merge to the far lane. If moving over is not an option, drivers must slow down and leave as much room as possible for the officers.

"The wind that passes when a semi goes by literally it almost feels like it's pulling you backwards into the lane," said Brent Kohls, an Eagle County Sheriff's deputy. Violating the move over law can result in a $58 ticket and 4 points against a drivers' license.
