THE BIGGEST RISK FOR COPS: NOT WHAT YOU THINK
Respondersafety.com wishes to thank Inside Edition for shedding light upon the issues affecting our part of the world.
Talk to almost any trooper in this country and they'll tell you they're more afraid of getting hit on the side of the road than they are of being shot. Many states are now fighting back by enacting "move over" laws. These laws require drivers to move over one lane when they see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road, and if they can't move over, to slow down substantially.
INSIDE EDITION was invited along on a special enforcement detail in Florida to see the law in action. After a car is pulled over, a team of motorcycle cops wait nearby to watch for drivers who don't slow down, or move over for troopers who are on the side of the road. INSIDE EDITION found car after car not slowing down.
Several drivers were cited, and now face a fine of $120. Almost every driver stopped told INSIDE EDITION they didn't know they were breaking the law.
