NORTH DAKOTA MOVE-OVER LAW

Officials have stated recently that North Dakota's troopers and emergency workers protect the citizens of the state, and now it's their job to protect them. And there's an important way to do it. Today troopers are placing a special emphasis on enforcing the Move Over Law.

North Dakota Highway Patrol says when troopers stop cars and have their yellow lights on, any vehicle approaching the emergency vehicle needs to move over to the far opposite lane, in most cases the far left lane. The H.P. says if it`s not safe to move into the other lane, then slow down and proceed with caution. The penalty for not doing so is $50 and two points on your driving record.

The Move-Over law pertains to multi-lane road highways like the Interstate or U.S. 83. It was enacted in 2001 to protect emergency workers and troopers on the road.
