CONNECTICUT LEGISLATOR TO PUSH FOR MOVE-OVER LAW

State Rep. Richard O. Belden, R-Shelton, has a laundry list of items he plans to tackle when he begins his 17th term in office. Belden, 72, a lifelong city resident, is running unopposed, for the third time, for the 113th District seat. He was elected in 1974 and is the longest continuously serving member in the history of the House, having served for 32 years. He suggested that he has

a number of things he would like to accomplish. He is considering a "move over" law for the state. He stated that people know to pull over for ambulances and fire trucks and emergency vehicles with their lights flashing. He stated that this law would apply when police have pulled over a driver on a highway or if they are dealing with a disabled vehicle and their cruiser has the amber lights flashing. Traffic going in the same direction would have to move over one lane in order to avoid an accident with the vehicles, or to avoid hitting someone. He said he plans to run this by the Legislature's Public Safety Committee.
