  • Rhode Island: Officer Struck During DUI Stop

    Police made a third arrest around 1 a.m. Sunday morning after a Cranston Officer was injured by the impact of his cruiser after it had been struck by a drunk driver. Steven Capobianco, 32, of Cranston, was driving on Oaklawn Avenue when his vehicle hit a police cruiser from behind as the officer was administering field sobriety tests to another driver on the side of the road. The cruiser was pushed forward and hit the officer in his hip and back. Capobianco was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor or Drugs and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test.

  • Texas: San Antonio Officer Hit by Vehicle

    An SAPD officer is recovering after he was hit by a car while responding to a wreck near downtown on Saturday night. According to news reports, the unnamed officer was struck while getting out of his patrol car by vehicle traveling south on U.S. 281 South near Interstate 35.

  • Virginia: Fire Truck Struck by Tractor-Trailer on I-64

    At approximately 0720, a fire truck responding to the 2nd accident was struck from behind by a tractor trailer while slowing to use an emergency crossover from the east bound lanes to access the scene of the 2nd MVC in the west bound lanes. The fire truck was using all of its emergency lights and signaling devices at the time. Neither the three firefighters on the truck nor the driver of the tractor trailer sustained significant injury. The three firefighters were transported to the hospital as a precaution. The tractor trailer was carrying several hazardous materials including consumer grade pesticides, alcohol, and flammable liquids. The east bound lanes of the interstate are currently closed and are not expected to open for an extended period of time."

  • Louisiana: Alabama Football Team Dctors Help Officer Struck by Car

    An LSU police officer struck by a car Saturday night after the Alabama-LSU game is recovering after the quick action of the Crimson Tide's team doctors. At the time he was hit, the officer was escorting the doctors out of Baton Rouge. As soon as the doctors realized what had happened, they left their vehicles and went to the officer's aid. Unfortunately, at that point all of their medical equipment was on the way back to Tuscaloosa.   • Washington, DC: Firefighter Struck by Car

  • Vermont: Trooper Hurt in Accident - Fire Truck Struck in a Later Accident

    Two Vermont highway accidents this week involved public vehicles. One injured a police officer and the other damaged a fire truck. A Vermont State Police cruiser was struck by a passing motorist while assisting with an accident on Interstate 91 in Windsor, between Exit 8 and Exit 9, southbound, according to a news release from the police. Alexander Schramm, 26, of White River Junction, lost control of his 2008 Nissan Altima at 8:40 a.m. as he attempted to slow and avoid the accident ahead. Schramm struck a guardrail and a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria occupied by Vermont State Police Corporal Michael Sorensen, 45. Sorensen was transported to Mount Ascutney Hospital with minor back pain. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. Schramm received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint in connection with the crash. Later in the day, Milo Nelson, 84, of Lake Elmore, Vt., struck a 2009 Hartford fire truck with his 2004 Dodge Intrepid, according to a separate news release from the Vermont State Police. The truck was parked near Exit 11 on I-91 to assist with another accident when it was hit, said Captain Alan Beebe of the Hartford Fire Department.

  • Colorado: Denver Police Officer Hit by Car Making Progress, Opens Eyes

    A Denver police officer critically injured when hit by a car during a student protest opened his eyes on Thursday, according to family. Officer John Adsit "remains in critical condition and faces another intense, long and vital surgery today," his family said Friday in a media statement.   • Minnesota: Semi Plows into Squad Cars on I-94

    A Rogers police SUV, a Minnesota State Patrol squad car, a tow truck and a jackknifed semi all had their lights flashing. 200 yards away, another squad car was warning drivers of the crash ahead. But all of those precautions couldn't stop a semi before it smashed into a police officer and state trooper Monday night on Interstate 94 in Rogers, Minnesota.   • Pennsylvania: Officer Struck While Investigating Crash in Cheltenham Twp.

    A Cheltenham Township police officer is hospitalized after being struck by a car while investigating an earlier crash. It happened at 6:30 a.m. Thursday on Washington Lane near Township Line Road. Police tell Action News the officer was investigating an accident on that road and was struck by a vehicle. The officer was taken by ambulance to Abington Memorial Hospital.
