  • Georgia: Officer Struck by Truck at GA Ports in Critical Condition, Driver Out on Bond

    The truck driver charged with DUI after severely injuring a Georgia Ports Authority officer is out of jail. Robert Lee Turner, 63, was released on a $4,600 bond. He is charged with operating a vehicle without a tag or decal and DUI less safe, both misdemeanors. Port officials said he hit Cpl. William Solomon on Monday afternoon. Solomon remains in critical condition at Memorial Health. A close friend of Solomon said while he is still in critical condition, he is making some improvements. He was able to move his lower extremities on Wednesday, which is quite a miracle when just three days ago the family was told he might not make it.

  • Minnesota: Tow Truck Driver Recounts Frightening S. St. Paul Crash

    A crash in South St. Paul Tuesday morning shows just how dangerous it can be for emergency workers responding to accidents. A car hit a Minnesota State Patrol squad car, pinning the trooper inside and throwing tow truck driver Warren Duran onto a busy road. “My heart was pumping a million miles an hour,” Duran said. “I was shaken up because I’ve never had anything like this happen before.” Duran, who works for Southeast Towing, was getting ready to tow a car on Interstate 494 and Concord Street when a driver lost control, hitting a squad car — which then subsequently hit the car Duran was working on. “I’m underneath the right side of the vehicle hooking my chain up, and I hear a bang,” Duran said.

  • Alaska: Officer Struck by APD Vehicle, Suffers Broken Leg While Investigating Theft Report

    An Anchorage Police Department officer was struck by another officer's vehicle Saturday night while investigating a report of shoplifting at a Fred Mayer in South Anchorage. Anchorage police said the officer's leg was broken in the incident, and two people were taken into custody following a brief pursuit.

    A Melbourne burglar who stole a getaway but delivered himself into the arms of the law by crashing it twice, both times into police cars. The man is suspected of being involved in an aggravated burglary in South Melbourne before stealing the ute and careering into an unmarked police car before he'd left the suburb.

    Howard County police are investigating a two-vehicle collision in which a police officer's patrol car was struck by a driver under the influence of alcohol.

  • Minnesota: 150 Crashes In The Metro, State Patrol Squad Hit

    As snow fell on the Twin Cities metro Tuesday morning, 150 crashes were reported, including one in the St. Cloud area that killed a mother of three. Holly Klein’s death was announced by Saint Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights in an email to the community. In a separate incident, a State Patrol squad was hit with the trooper pinned inside. The incident involving the trooper happened following a crash around 9 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 494 and Concord Street in South St. Paul.

  • Indiana: State Troopers' Cars Hit While Working Crashes Sunday

    Two Indiana State Troopers' cars were struck Sunday while the officers were responding to other crashes on snowy roads. Just before 1 a.m., Trooper Philip Cooley was working a crash on I-465 near the 29 mile marker when an approaching vehicle lost control and struck his patrol car. Cooley was standing outside his vehicle at the time and was not injured.
