Maryland: SUV strikes Baltimore County Station
An SUV crashed into a Baltimore County Fire station building late Thursday in Halethorpe. According to police, officers were called to 4501 Washington Boulevard around 11:23 p.m. for a reported a crashing into a building.
The SUV crashed into Baltimore County Fire Department Station 5’s radio room, damaging the building’s structure.
“We’re used to responding out and helping other people in our community, protecting our community but we are also vulnerable to accidents,” Baltimore County Fire Lt. Travis Francis said.
The firefighters were out on a call at the time of the crash. Normally a firefighter would be working in the radio room.
“Normally around the clock, someone would’ve been sitting at that desk when that car came through the wall, so we’re very fortunate that our staff wasn’t here,” Francis said.
No firefighters were injured in the crash. One civilian had minor injuries.
“The ladder truck that’s assigned to the Halethorpe station was one of the first to come back here and start tending to the emergency,” Francis said.
Baltimore County crews will begin to repair the building as soon as possible.
