Georgia: FATAL FIRE APPARATUS CRASH/RIG STRUCK ON INTERSTATE
Once again a fire apparatus has been struck on the highway and the crash has left a person dead. This incident happened around 0320 hours today in Douglas County (GA) near the Georgia Highway 92 exit off the interstate.
The fire apparatus was on the interstate in response to an earlier incident involving a Ford Mustang that had run off of the interstate and gone up an embankment into the nearby woods.
The fire apparatus was blocking the shoulder and right lane to protect other emergency vehicles and Firefighters as they were trying to extricate the driver from that incident.
About 20 minutes after the initial incident, a tractor-trailer smashed into the rear of the fire truck, causing heavy damage to the big rig. The driver of the tractor-trailer was killed on impact.
The driver of the Mustang was pulled from the wreckage of his vehicle and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta for treatment of his injuries. No Firefighters were injured.
