Ohio: FBI releases video of Jeep that struck Cleveland police officer
he FBI in Cleveland released a video Friday of a Jeep SUV that struck a Cleveland police officer and fled the scene of the crash Saturday morning.
FBI, Cleveland police and Crime Stoppers are looking for any information about the whereabouts of the driver responsible for the collision, FBI spokeswoman Vicki Anderson said in a statement.
The reward for anybody who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver was doubled to $15,000, Anderson said.
Anderson said it’s possible that the SUV driver was in town for MLB All-Star Weekend and might have since left.
The patrol officer, who has still not been identified, was struck about 4 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of West 9th Street and West Superior Avenue in downtown Cleveland’s Warehouse District, police said previously.
The vehicle that investigators suspect struck the officer is the Altitude model of a 2019 Jeep Compass with a black roof and black rims. It should have heavy front-end damage because of the collision, Anderson said.
The officer suffered multiple broken ribs, which were treated at the hospital and he was released. The officer was later readmitted to the hospital for unknown reasons, police said Tuesday.
The officer’s health status was not released Friday.
