Arizona: Phoenix firetruck hit by vehicle while responding to car fire
PHOENIX — Officials say a woman is dead and a child is in critical condition after a crash on 19th Avenue south of Buckeye Road.
The incident occurred Monday morning around 9 a.m., according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
The crash reportedly involved six vehicles. Firefighters evaluated additional patients.
Police say a vehicle, driven by 25-year-old Denise Cruz, ran a stop sign and was hit by a dump truck. The dump truck was then struck by an SUV from behind and the dump truck landed on its side, hitting three other vehicles.
The SUV continued and crashed into Cruz's vehicle as well, according to officials.
Cruz was later pronounced dead, according to officials. The 1-year-old girl in the vehicle with Cruz was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive.
Four other individuals, including a 3-year-old girl, had minor injuries.
Police say the driver of the dump truck showed no signs of impairment.
Phoenix police will conduct the accident investigation.
