Massachusetts: Boston police officer struck by vehicle in Jamaica Plain

A Boston police officer working a detail was struck by a vehicle Monday in Jamaica Plain.

The incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. at Ukraine Way and Washington Street.

"All the guys were telling me that this big truck came from one side of the street on the wrong side of the road – drove down and the van was parked right in the middle of the opening, and took the van out and hit the cop car behind it as well, and turned the whole van around," an electrician who was working at a nearby construction site said. "And then the cop got hit, too, and he had to be taken out in an ambulance."Witnesses said it appears a dump truck collided with a white Ford van, which then hit an officer's silver Ford Explorer.

The worker said he heard the officer screaming out in pain. The officer was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not elaborate on the officer's injuries, but said he is expected to survive.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges have yet been filed.
