Washington, DC: Carjacking Suspects Strike Police Officer While Fleeing in Stolen Vehicle
A D.C. police officer has been hurt after a carjacking suspect struck him in Northeast, police say.
A woman reported about 10 p.m. Friday that she was on Mt Olivet Road NE near Gallaudet University when a man flashed a gun and told her to get out of her car. She complied and two men fled in her car.
Police say they found the car only 30 minutes later in the parking lot of a Circle 7 blocks away from the carjacking site.
Officers approached the car and the suspects sped off, striking one officer who was on foot. The officer suffered injuries that are not life-threatening, police say.
The suspects drove about a mile to the intersection of Benning Road and 17th Street NE, where they slammed into another civilian's car and disabled it, police say.
Officers witnessed the crash and arrested one of the suspects. They are charged with armed carjacking.
