Maryland: 2 Baltimore County Officers Struck By Car, 1 Suspect In Custody Another On The Loose
Two Baltimore County Police officers were struck by a car near St. Agnes Hospital in southwest Baltimore when they were attempting to stop a vehicle with a wanted suspect inside.
According to police, the wanted suspect was taken into custody, but the driver who struck the officers fled on foot and is still on the loose.
Baltimore County Police officials said the officers, who are part of the Joint Warrant Apprehension Task Force, were trying to stop a vehicle in the 900 block of S. Caton Avenue around 10:40 a.m.
“When the driver struck those two officers, he continued to flee with that targeted suspect southbound on Canton Avenue,” Jennifer Peach, of Baltimore County Police, said.
One police vehicle, a Volvo, tried to block the suspect vehicle in so it could not flee.
When officers exited to make the arrest, the driver struck them with the vehicle.
The driver of the suspect vehicle attempted to flee the area and officers fired several rounds at the vehicle.
Police called for backup and searched about five miles away from the hospital.
Police later found the suspect vehicle in the 300 block of Melvin Avenue. The car was damaged and empty.
“We confirmed it was the vehicle because when the suspect’s vehicle struck our two officers, officers immediately pulled out their weapons and began to fire shots at the suspect’s veehicle,” Peach said.
The suspect with the active warrant was taken into the custody, but police continue to look for the driver.
The original suspect in custody was not hurt, but two officers were taken to St. Agnes for treatment.
All are reported to have non-life threatening injuries.
