Ohio: Hilliard police officer returns to work day after vehicle is struck by suspected drunk driver
A Hilliard police officer returned to work Sunday morning, just a day after his vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver on 270 northbound, police say.
Officer Trevor Gill was taking a crash report and making an arrest on a separate suspected OVI encounter when the police vehicle he was taking the report in was struck by another vehicle driving on 270 northbound near exit 13A.
Officer Gill radioed that his vehicle was struck at 4:31 a.m. on Saturday morning, according to Hilliard police officials, and was able to exit his vehicle under his own power and see which way the vehicle that struck him was going. He saw which way the vehicle turned off the exit.
That information led to that vehicle being stopped at Davidson Road and Trueman Boulevard and the driver was stopped just a few minutes later. The driver was arrested and charged.
The name of the suspected driver has not been released at this time. Officer Gill returned to work Sunday morning.
