Maryland: Tractor-trailer driver dies after crash, rollover on I-95

The driver of a tractor-trailer has died after his truck hit two vehicles and overturned on southbound I-95 Tuesday in Cecil County, the Maryland Transportation Authority said.

Maryland State Police officials said around 1:45 p.m., a trooper was conducting a traffic stop at the 97 mile marker. For unknown reasons, the tractor-trailer struck the trooper's vehicle and the stopped vehicle, before overturning on the right shoulder of the highway, officials said.

Police said both the trooper and the driver of the stopped vehicle were out of their cars at the time of the crash and neither were injured.

The left lane opened at 8:37 p.m. Tuesday on southbound I-95 past Maryland Route 272 at exit 97. The two right lanes remained closed until early Wednesday morning.

Hazmat crews were called to the scene, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing.
