California: Hit-and-run driver strikes San Francisco police vehicle in Tenderloin
A hit-and-run driver struck a police vehicle this afternoon in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, according to police.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Franklin and Ellis streets around 4:12 p.m. when they were struck by a vehicle, according to Officer Robert Rueca.
The driver then drove away without stopping, prompting a search of the area as police worked to locate the vehicle and driver.
There were no reported injuries.
The Tenderloin has been the scene of at least two other hit-and-run collisions involving police officers in the past year.
In April of this year a driver struck an officer at Eddy and Larkin as he walked to lunch, and was later arrested. The officer was treated for an injury to his arm.
In a more serious incident in October of 2017, Officer Elia Lewin-Tankel was struck and injured on Turk Street between Van Ness Avenue and Franklin Street and suffered a serious head injury. A suspect known as Maurice or Maurquise Johnson was taken into custody in that incident.
