Ohio: Licking County Sheriff's deputy struck by truck during shooting
According to Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp, a deputy in his office was treated at Licking Memorial Hospital and released after being struck by a truck. The deputy, Sgt. James Miller, was searching for suspects in a burglary when he fired shots and was struck by a vehicle while standing outside of his own. BCI is handling the shooting portion of the investigation.
"We were fortunate," Thorp said. Miller is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. According to Thorp, Miller was investigating a burglary which occurred earlier in the day. LCSO received a tip on the location of the suspects later in the day, and upon arriving, a chase ensued.
"The deputy was outside of the vehicle and directed the driver to stop. He did fire shots and the vehicle struck him," Thorp said. The shots fired by Miller resulted in no injuries and two subjects are in custody.
Ohio 16 was shut down due to the incident.
