Connecticut: Driver Struck Trooper On Route 8 In Waterbury, State Police Say
A trooper was struck by a car on Route 8 in Waterbury Thursday, state police said. Trooper Anlly Diaz, 36, was taken to Waterbury Hospital to be treated for injuries that police said appeared minor. His police car also was struck, state police said.
The collision happened about 5:30 p.m. near the Exit 29 off ramp of Route 8 south. Diaz’s police car was in the right shoulder, protecting an accident scene with its emergency lights on, state police said. Diaz was outside the car.
According to police, Karlene Flaherty-Scully, 43, of the Oakville section of Watertown, lost control of the 2011 Dodge Challenger she was driving and sideswiped the left side of the cruiser. She then struck Diaz.
Neither Flaherty-Scully nor her passenger, Stephanie A. Jambard, 36, of Waterbury, was injured. Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the collision, state police said Friday.
