Wisconsin: Four arrested in hit-and-run crash that injured two Milwaukee PD officers
Four people have been arrested in connection with a Thursday evening hit-and-run crash on the city's northwest side that injured two foot patrol officers. The driver of the car involved in the crash on West Villard Avenue and North Sherman Blvd shortly before 5 p.m. was an 18-year-old man, police said.
He was arrested on the 7000 block of North 78th Street and faces charges of 2nd degree reckless injury, 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, hit-and-run causing great bodily harm and hit-and-run causing injury.
In a statement, police made a point to say that the vehicle he was driving was not stolen. Three of the man's passengers were arrested and face charges of failing to report an accident.
Witness Laird Geibel said he was sitting with his wife in their van talking with the officers when an out of control car came towards them. The driver hit the van, then the officers.
"The second officer was blind sided," said Geibel. "He was hit, went onto the hood of the car, rolled up onto the glass and off. He ended up with a deep gash and laceration."
Geibel said he jumped out and applied pressure to the injured head of one of the officers.
Both officers are assigned to District 7. One is a 54-year-old male with 14 years of service and the other is a 43-year-old male with nine years of service.
Both officers were hospitalized after the crash but were released as of Friday morning.
