North Carolina: Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD officer struck by suspect vehicle during chase; 2 in custody
Two people have been arrested after a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was injured when he was hit by a suspect vehicle during a chase in east Charlotte.
Just after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday a license plate reader hit on a stolen 2005 Kia Optima near Central Ave. and Sharon Amity Rd. The car was stopped by two officers, but when they approached the car the driver took off, striking one of the officers.
According to CMPD, the officer received minor injuries and is expected to be alright. After hitting the officer, the suspect vehicle continued with police in pursuit until crashing into a tree on Logie Ave. off of Central Ave., police said.
