Maryland: I-95 Crash Kills Firefighter Working Wrecker Job
Perryville Volunteer Fire Company member (and retired Baltimore County Firefighter) Brian Williams was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 near Perryville (North of Baltimore, Cecil County) this morning, when a vehicle struck him as he was standing on the shoulder of that highway while operating a tow truck.
Williams, 51, (also a retired career Firefighter/Paramedic with Baltimore County) was pronounced dead at the scene at 1048 hours, approximately 16 minutes after the 3 vehicle collision occurred in the northbound lane of I-95, north of Rt. 222.
The crash occurred when Eric Schlerf, 37, inexplicably lost control of his northbound 2001 Jeep Cherokee. Williams was standing on the road shoulder as he was using a 2014 Freightliner tow truck to retrieve a crashed vehicle. After veering, Schlerf's Jeep crashed into the tow truck and then hit the Camaro, before striking Williams.
Williams was a Fire Lieutenant and EMS Captain with the Perryville Fire Company and was also a tow truck driver for Collette's, a heavy duty tow/recovery service. He was a member of the fire company for decades and retired as a career Firefighter in Baltimore County after 28 years.
His wife Kerri is also a member of the Perrville Fire Company. he leaves her, a daughter and other family and fire service family members. Our sincere condolences to all those affected by this loss. Rest In Peace,
