Louisiana: A Lafayette Police Officer Injured During Arrest
A Lafayette woman is in jail facing Attempted 1st Degree Murder charges. Lafayette Police Officers where investigating a disturbance on the 100 block of Noel Drive involving Jennifer Shanahan. Officers located Shanahan a short time later sitting in her vehicle in a parking lot on Johnston street.
According to Police, when officers approached the vehicle she drove off and led officers back to Noel Drive. Once on Noel Drive, Shanahan stopped her vehicle in the roadway. After multiple commands were given by officers for Shanahan to exit the vehicle, Shanahan place her vehicle in reverse and accelerated. The vehicle struck one of the officers and then the police unit which was parked behind Shanahan's vehicle. Officers were able to remove Shanahan from the vehicle and take her into custody.
The police officer struck by the vehicle was treated and released from an area hospital. Jennifer Shanahan was arrested for Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Flight From an Officer, Resisting an Officer, OWI and on a Failure to Appear warrant for Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling. The case remains under investigation.
