Michigan: Officer, woman struck by car on snowy highway
Police released dash cam footage Thursday of a Feb. 1 crash where an officer and a woman were struck by an oncoming car. Officer Ryan Silvis was responding to a single-vehicle accident on a snowy highway when a truck slid off the road and struck him and the 23-year-old woman, Fox 17 reported. “When I was talking to her, at the last second out of the corner of my eye, I saw headlights,” Silvis said. “And my brain kind of went, ‘those aren’t supposed to be there.’” Silvis’ radio was thrown when they were struck, so he ran to his patrol car to call for help, according to MLive.com.
Silvis, who suffered a fractured hip, and the woman were transported to a local hospital. They are still recovering from their injuries. Driver Jeffrey Huizinga, 26, was not injured in the crash, police said. Huizinga is charged with failing to use due caution when passing a stationary emergency vehicle causing serious injury, and a moving violation causing serious injury.
