Michigan: Madison Heights officer OK after car struck by SUV

A Madison Heights police officer is expected to return to the streets shortly after being hit by another vehicle early Tuesday morning. The officer, who has just under two years on the force, was hit by an SUV at about 5:36 a.m. in the area of West University and Barrington, which is north of 11 Mile and west of John R. Police say the driver of the other vehicle ran a red light and struck the police car.

The officer who was hit experienced leg pain initially, said Lt. Michael Siladke, a Madison Heights Police Department spokesman. But, he was checked out at the hospital, cleared, and was back at police headquarters just two hours later, Siladke said. The police car was “beat up” in the accident, though Siladke said he wasn’t sure if it would be totaled. Both cars were towed away, and the driver of the SUV was ticketed.
