Michigan: Houghton County Road Commission worker struck on side of the road
A Houghton County Road Commission worker was struck by a vehicle while working on a broken down snowplow that was parked on the side of the road in Chassell Township Saturday morning. According to the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on the North Entry Road near Channel View Lane in Chassell Township.
Officials say a 2007 Ford truck driven by 89-year-old Walter Hitch of Portage Entry, was traveling southbound on North Entry Road when he approached a corner, lost control, and struck a parked Houghton County Road Commission vehicle, as well as a road commission worker. A large road commission snowplow was broken down and parked on the side of the road for maintenance purposes, and another road commission vehicle was parked in front of it conducting work on the plow. Two road commission workers were standing near the mechanics truck when the Hitch vehicle hit one of the road commission workers and also the road commission pick up truck.
40-year-old road commission worker, Brian Julio, was struck during the accident and was treated for his injuries on scene by the Chassell First Responders and Mercy Ambulance personnel. Julio was then transported to Portage Health Systems for treatment of his injuries which are considered to be non-life threatening.
